Why We Suck
By Dr. Dennis Leary. Yes, the comedian/actor. He got an honorary doctorate and even pokes fun at it and himself. B let me borrow this book and then let me pass it along to Pajamafin, who, last time I talked to him, was already half-way through it (even though he only had it for about a day and a half).
What can I say about this book? I mean, you KNOW it is going to be great when the guy admits on the first page that everything in the book was researched by himself on Google OR happened to him first hand. (So no foot notes). You KNOW it going to be great when he TELLS you in the first couple of pages to not only stop reading it, but to not buy it because he is going to say something that will, in the end, piss off every single person who reads it (for the record, I was not once pissed off, but I did find myself going, “EXACTLY!” an awful lot).
Basically, this book goes into all of the reasons why people hate the United States and why we don’t like ourselves and is so brutally honest that it is refreshing. He tackles medicating kids, sex, drugs, the differences between men and women, politics, actresses, actors, mental disorders (or the lack thereof)…
To shorten the list, everything that he could think of that pisses him off about people in general and this country specifically is in this book.
And it is HILARIOUS.
I would highly recommend it to people who like to hear what others truthfully think, but not to people who are thin skinned. If you don’t want to hear someone ragging on women, men, kids, cats, the government, celebrities, public school systems, etc and so forth, don’t bother.
For everyone else with a sense of humor, go for it.
