Saturday Pow Wow And Movie Night
Saturday morning the Marmot, Pajamafin and I went to a pow wow that was held in a school gym that had been built on top of an old apartment complex that had been torn down, which, ironically, was an apartment complex Pajamafin used to live in (“My kitchen used to be right there…”).
It was a nice pow wow, with a competition, so there were all age groups out doing the different dance styles. My favorites are the sneak up, grass, and fancy dancing for the men, and fancy shawl for the women. My favorite competition, though, was the tiny tots, which had kids from ages two to five or six all out dancing. They were so CUTE! Especially the little grass dancer who was all of two. He fell fantastically, then got up and danced some more, absolutely adorable. And there was a four or five year old fancy shawl dancer in orange who was spectacular.
I got some sage, sweet grass and cedar which smell wonderful. I could have gone to the park and picked some juniper, it smells very similar, but I figure paying a dollar for some cedar and supporting the pow wow that I was enjoying was money well spent. I also got a little hematite turtle necklace, very pretty. And, as usual, the fry bread and Indian tacos were wonderful. The Marmot especially liked the corn soup.
Then we all came back to the house and we cooked fry bread (Pajamafin’s fry bread is different from pow wow fry bread; it is smaller, slightly less greasy, and not quite as sweet) and beef strips for taco meat and had our own Indian Tacos, then we observed Earth Hour (see below).
Then it was MOVIE NIGHT. We watched My Name Is Bruce, which is a movie starring Bruce Campbell as Bruce Campbell, and he is kidnapped to save a town from a monster. He thinks it is a movie, but it is “real”, and hilarity ensues. A good movie to watch while drinking tequila (which, fortunately, we had). It really wasn’t a bad movie, especially if you are a big fan of Bruce Campbell, but it wouldn’t be one that I watched over and over again.
We then popped in Tank Girl, which is a strange movie based on the comic from Dark Horse, and it is even MORE strange when drinking. It was odd to me, as it is my movie, that I have watched this particular dvd several several times (as in, I can quote it and sing along with the songs, as the Marmot and Pajamafin soon found out) but I have never watched it while drinking. You’d think that would be one of the first choices to watch for that activity.
And then, to top the evening off (which, at this point was now becoming late night/super early morning), we watched Finding Nemo, mostly because Pajamafin and I launched into Whale Speak (“Dooooo YOOOuuuuuu KnoooowwwwWWW the Wwaaaaaaayyy too SYYYYyyd-nEEEEEEEEE….”) and the Marmot said that he wished we had that movie because he wanted to see it. To which I said “Oh, I’ve GOT IT! It’s under the Effs” (because, yes, I do have my movies alphabetized. But not my books.) Which was actually very helpful because, for some reason, the Marmot thought that the movie was called “That Whale Movie From Pixar With The Underwater Fishes” and not Finding Nemo.
It was a fun evening, complete with a Marmot craving for Ramen noodles, specialized jumping jacks with heel touches (inside, outside, switch foot, outside, inside), live music, and discussions on how to plant sage seeds (which I got in the mail that day. One is red sage which germinates in the cold, and white sage, which rots easily, so they might grow or they might not). I LOVE movie nights.

This is for the Marmot:

Heh, I will totally tell him to come look.
Showed the Marmot, he laughed and then said (in response to “now you have to comment so that she will know you saw it”) “Comment? Can’t I just email?”.
