Homade

I went to my mom and dad’s today, and as I was walking onto the front porch, I noticed the sign.  Red writing on a white background, was the words, “Homade”.

“I like your Homade sign,”  I said to my dad, who was standing there, looking at me to see if I noticed.  “Where did you get it?”

Come to find out, it was my grandfather’s.  My mom’s dad to be specific.  Turns out, he would make these signs and then hang then on the backs of the trailers he made.

Trailers? you say.  Yup.  My grandfather would hand build travel trailers with beds, bathrooms, kitchens, the whole nine yards on wheels.  In fact, the trailer that my Mimi and Grampa would take us camping in was one of the ones that he had made.

I always knew that my grandfather was very handy.  I have a chest and a sewing cabinet that he made, as well as a little step stool that be made and carved my name in and that my Mimi painted for me (all of us have one).  I knew that he had built the entire back of his house, and I think I must have known about him making trailers, but I had forgotten it.  It was nice to find out about it, and to see the sign.
