I Quit

So, I tendered my resignation this morning, giving the standard two week’s notice, because I have been accepted into a school to get my alternative teaching certification (more on that in the near future, I feel like if I talk too much about it, it will go away.  Silly yes, but there it is).  My class graduates next week, so I figured by giving my two week notice today I would get to be there when my kids graduated and I would be there the following week to help them transition up to the junior’s summer program as well be there with the ones who won’t be moving up until the school year starts.  I also figured a week with the new kids would help the bosses out but still be a short enough time period that the new kiddos wouldn’t become so attached that there were problems when I leave.

I quit this morning, very quietly, not wanting to make a big production out of it.

By noon the entire school knew about it.  I now have teachers who, for two and a half years, haven’t even spoken to me suddenly asking me where I am going and how I got into the program and do they have time to apply too?  (The answer to that last is no, the deadline was today.)

I was surprised that word traveled that fast, ESPECIALLY because people seem to already know what program I am in.  So far as I can recall I haven’t told anyone here what program it is, not so much to be holding out but because I didn’t want to say anything until I was sure I was going to be accepted.  The only thing I can figure out is that I must have said something to someone and they talked (which is fine with me) or the company called here to check out my employment history or references.

All in all I don’t suppose it matters that everyone knows, it was just surprising to me.

  1. It’s amazing how fast that type of news travels, isn’t it? Hugs and congrats on the school-tell me more about it when you feel up to a tea party and a movie again! :)

  2. Big Congratulations! Here’s to bigger and better things!

  3. Very big congrats too! Those are great circumstances to quit under. You know as oppose to sexual harrasment or slugging a co worker. Which I have done neither so stop looking at me like that! ;)
